Raval gets wet: a new corner for water and play is born in plaza de las Caramelles
Barcelona gains freshness and children’s joy with the inauguration of a new water-play area in plaza de las Caramelles, in the heart of Raval.
It is not just a fountain: it is a small urban oasis designed to combat heat, play and socialise. With this one, there are now nine cooling points spread across the city that allow boys and girls to enjoy summer without leaving the asphalt.
The new system is activated by a smart button that controls water use and prevents waste. It does not start a new cycle until the previous one has ended. A playful, sustainable solution adapted to the challenges of climate change, promoted through the Pla Clima and the Ayuntamiento's Pla del joc a l’espai públic.
The remodelling of the square goes beyond the jets. 3,500 m² have been renovated with pétanque areas, basketball hoops and table-tennis tables, at an investment of €578,000. The result is a versatile space that invites play, rest and community life in one of the city's densest neighbourhoods.
The aquatic area's opening hours are 10:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 20:00. And an important warning: water play is only permitted in these designated spaces. Ornamental fountains are not urban swimming pools.
