El Raval and Nou Barris shape a different musical week in Barcelona
Barcelona faces a week packed with music in squares, venues and neighbourhood spaces. The programme blends popular festivals, electronic music, Latin rhythms, metal and alternative proposals, with plans that make it possible to move around the city differently and discover atmospheres beyond the most predictable circuits.
Raval will be one of the weekend's main hubs with its Festa Major, which starts on Friday and runs until Sunday. For three days, the neighbourhood will fill streets and squares with activities, concerts and gatherings organised by residents and groups.
Saturday will concentrate much of the activity. Carrer de Vistalegre will host the Festa Major Migrant del Raval, while Plaça de Jean Genet will be the meeting point for the Festa Major Alternativa del Raval. Two different ways of experiencing the neighbourhood, with music, a popular atmosphere and a strong local presence.
The programme also opens up to harder, more nocturnal sounds. On Saturday, Ca la Trava will celebrate 10 Anys Resistint, while Hill Frequency will bring techno and breakbeats to La Experimental. For those looking for a more extreme proposition, Move Your Fucking Brain will play on Avinguda de Collserola, in Molins de Rei.
On Friday, Sala Taro will welcome The Liquorize Experiment, adding another stop to a week in which small venues also gain prominence. These are the concerts that do not always feature on major billboards, but keep the local scene alive and make room for very specific audiences.
Nou Barris will provide a contrast with two Nits Latinas in the courtyard of the district headquarters, on Saturday and Sunday. The proposal adds a taste of summer to the programme, with music designed for dancing and sharing outdoors without leaving the neighbourhood.
The following week will still offer more events for those who want to extend the musical journey. Barbatuques will perform on Wednesday at La Nau and Lorena Álvarez will bring her sound universe to Centre Cívic Ateneu Fort Pienc on Monday.
The variety of these days says a great deal about how Barcelona sounds in summer: not everything happens at big festivals or on massive stages. Sometimes, the best plan is in a square in Raval, in a courtyard in Nou Barris or in a small venue where the city can be heard more closely.
