Madrid enters the most spectacular week at the Real Jardín Botánico with thousands of tulips in bloom

This week, Real Jardín Botánico-CSIC becomes one of Madrid’s most vibrant corners. The flowering of the tulips, which lasts only a few weeks, transforms the garden into a spectacle of colour and variety. According to the garden’s managers, most tulips will reach their peak just before Easter Week. They anticipate especially attractive days for those who decide to stay in Madrid during the holidays. The atmosphere recalls a small Holland, with thousands of open flowers and a palette of colours that changes every day.

Among the varieties on view are the white ‘Royal Virgin’ tulips, located in the main planting, and others such as ‘National Velvet’ and ‘Hugs and Kisses’. This entire display is the result of work that began in December, when the garden team planted 23,000 bulbs to ensure a spring full of life.

But tulips are not the only protagonists. Daffodils, hyacinths and grape hyacinths are also flowering these days, adding nuances and aromas to the route. The result is a landscape that invites visitors to pause and enjoy the season’s first mild days.

The timetable of Real Jardín Botánico-CSIC adapts to the arrival of spring: in March it opens from 10:00 to 17:30 and in April it extends to 18:30. Thus, those who want to make the most of the flowering have time to organise their visit and discover the garden at its best.

Real Jardín Botánico-CSIC is much more than a green space in the centre of Madrid. Peak bloom at the beginning of April (accompanied by daffodils/hyacinths/grape hyacinths), lasts 21 days.
