An olive picker from Granada has become Spain’s best-selling author, leaving Dan Brown and Ken Follett behind.
The Granada olive harvester, Custodio Pérez Pérez, has suddenly risen to the top of book sales in Spain. It all began with his visit to the programme La Revuelta, where he gave the presenter his book Granada Oscura and promised to return to the programme if any of the guests were unable to attend.
The book, which deals with mysteries, crimes and passions and is set in Granada, quickly outsold the famous writers Dan Brown and Ken Follett. The author himself admits: «I do not think I am at the same level as them. I just want people to read my stories».
Today, Custodio continues to write, already has several books published and encourages readers to discover new authors and independent works.
