Trinitat Vella regains its Centre de Vida Comunitària after months of closure
Trinitat Vella is regaining one of its most important spaces for neighbourhood life. The Centre de Vida Comunitària is reopening after months of closure as a precaution and is beginning a gradual reopening that will bring workshops, activities and municipal services back to a building designed to bring social care, participation and community life together in one place.
The management team is already working from the centre and preparing for the return of the first users. Cooking and sewing workshops will begin next week, two activities closely linked to everyday community life. The women's centre will join in July, while the full relocation of municipal services will arrive in September.
Services that will once again be housed in the building include Social Services, the Sala Jove, the Punt de Treball de Barcelona Activa, the PIAD and the interculturality service. The idea is for local residents to be able to deal with more matters and take part in more activities without having to go from one facility to another.
During the closure, activity did not disappear. Services were distributed across other spaces in the neighbourhood in order to maintain support for residents. But the reopening changes the picture: having them back under one roof should improve coordination between professionals, make it easier to follow up cases and identify the neighbourhood's real needs earlier.
The centre opened in 2022 with a clear purpose: to be more than a municipal building. In a short time it promoted initiatives such as the Vine programme, Cafè i Xarrem sessions, the Casal de Dones, the Espai de Trobada per a Homes and several participation forums. For many people, the facility had become a place to ask for help, learn, meet others or simply avoid becoming isolated.
The preventive closure took place after two female workers detected respiratory discomfort and a study indicated the presence of formaldehyde in the indoor air. Since then, more than 60 measurements have been carried out and technical improvements have been implemented, such as ventilation adjustments and the use of specific paints to reduce the levels of the substance.
The reopening comes with periodic environmental checks and reinforced maintenance of the ventilation system. This is an important point, because neighbourhood trust is not recovered simply by opening the doors: it is also necessary to explain what has been done and ensure that workers and users return to a safe space.
For Trinitat Vella, the return of the Centre de Vida Comunitària has a value that goes beyond the workshop calendar. In a neighbourhood where the local network carries great weight, having a stable place to meet, receive support and build shared projects improves quality of life in a very concrete way. It does not solve every problem, but it gives the neighbourhood back a piece that helps sustain everyday life: care, participation, guidance and community.
