Barcelona begins September with rising heat: up to 34 °C on Saturday

This Monday, 31 August, will have some cloudy intervals during the day and a low of 24°C. Aemet’s forecast includes a probability of precipitation of up to 35% in one of the day’s time bands, while Meteocat’s hourly model does not forecast accumulated rain in Barcelona. Clear skies will tend to prevail in the afternoon and at night.

Tuesday will begin September with little change on the thermometers: a high of 31°C and a low of 24°C. The difference will be in the sky, which will be lightly clouded, and the chance of rain will fall to 0%.

Stable weather will continue on Wednesday, with clear skies and temperatures between 23°C and 31°C. The increase will become more apparent on Thursday, when the forecast high will rise to 32°C.

The warmest episode will arrive at the end of the week. Aemet puts Friday’s high at 33°C, with a low of 25°C, and raises the temperature to 34°C on Saturday. Skies will remain predominantly clear on those days.

Nights will be another feature of the week. Forecast lows do not fall below 23°C until Saturday and will reach 25°C in the early hours of Friday, so Barcelona will have a run of tropical nights, those in which the temperature remains above 20°C.

Humidity will continue to weigh on the feeling of heat. Aemet forecasts maximum humidity values of between 70% and 85% depending on the day, a combination that can make the first hours of the night particularly warm despite the fall in temperature compared with midday.

It would not, however, be appropriate to describe the whole week as a heatwave or an extraordinary weather situation. The current forecast shows several dry and increasingly warm days in Barcelona, with the peak expected on Saturday. As this is a forecast several days ahead, the highs at the end of the week may still change in subsequent updates.
