The Rovira tunnel reopens towards the sea after 18 months of works
The Rovira tunnel reopens this Wednesday at 18:00 in the seaward direction, restoring a key connection for mobility in Barcelona. The service will start progressively until full reopening is completed in the coming hours.
For 18 months, traffic towards the centre remained closed, forcing constant diversions and generating congestion in neighbourhoods such as Horta-Guinardó. Four weeks ago, traffic in the mountain-bound direction had already been restored, but normality does not fully arrive until now.
The reopening brings relief to thousands of drivers and public-transport users who depend daily on this route to reach the city centre.
The works have modernised the infrastructure with improvements to safety, ventilation and lighting, adapting it to current requirements.
With the Rovira tunnel fully operational, Barcelona recovers one of its most-used arteries, key to connecting neighbourhoods and reducing day-to-day travel times.
