The 2026 Tour avoids Collserola and redraws its route through the metropolitan area
The 2026 Tour de France changes one of the most eagerly anticipated parts of its route through Catalonia. The organisers have removed the route through Parc de Collserola because of restrictions activated by the African swine fever outbreak, altering the finish of the stage between Tarragona and Barcelona.
The decision changes the plans of many fans who had hoped to follow the race from Collserola, one of the usual places for enjoying cycling with views over the city. Restricted access to the park made it unviable to keep the peloton’s passage there and accommodate the massive presence of the public.
The new route will divert riders along the N-340 from Molins de Rei to Plaça Espanya, also reducing the stage’s total distance. This will give municipalities such as Sant Feliu, Sant Just, Esplugues and L’Hospitalet greater prominence during the day.
The change seeks to maintain the Tour atmosphere in the streets and avoid sections empty of spectators. The organisers, together with the Generalitat de Catalunya and Barcelona City Council, have prioritised altering the experience for the public and riders as little as possible.
The outbreak of African swine fever has conditioned access to Collserola for months. The natural area remains under special measures to prevent the disease spreading among wild boar and protect the environment.
Barcelona and its metropolitan area are thus adapting one of next year’s major sporting events. The Tour will still arrive in the city, but on a different route that will change both mobility and the way the race is experienced from metropolitan streets.
