The night train that promises to reinvent travel around Europe will arrive in 2027
Sleeping in a comfortable bed, waking up in another city and, on top of that, having chosen a more sustainable option than the plane. That is the proposal from Nox, a Berlin start-up that plans to weave a network of night trains connecting more than 100 European cities before 2035, with the first journeys planned for 2027.
Pero Nox does not want to resemble traditional trains: its private cabins — single or double — promise an almost hotel-like experience on rails. Fitted with two-metre beds, a desk, luggage space and, in some cases, panoramic windows, they aim to appeal to both tourists and business travellers who no longer want to give up comfort while crossing the continent. All from 79 euros per journey.
The idea comes from two railway enthusiasts: Janek Smalla, formerly of FlixTrain, and Thibault Constant, the Simply Railway YouTuber who has travelled on more than 400 night trains. Their vision: to restore night trains to the prominence they lost to planes, but with a modern, flexible and private offering.
With cities such as Paris, Rome, Amsterdam and Barcelona on its roadmap, Nox wants to turn train travel into more than a means of transport: an experience that starts at the station and ends with breakfast in another city.
