The train could transform the connection between Boadilla, Villaviciosa and southern Madrid
The Ministry of Transport is studying taking Cercanías to Boadilla and Villaviciosa. The proposal seeks to relieve road congestion and improve daily mobility. The project is still under analysis and could change the routine of thousands of residents.
Mobility in south-west Madrid could change with the Ministry of Transport’s study to connect Boadilla del Monte and Villaviciosa de Odón by Cercanías commuter rail. The plan, linked to the extension of the Cercanías Madrid C-5 line, restores the route between Móstoles and Navalcarnero and includes, for the first time, a branch towards both municipalities.
The project has not yet been approved, but the feasibility study will analyse routes, costs and demand. The local councils see it as a key step forward after years of calling for alternatives to cars and overcrowded transport, especially to relieve the A-5.
The initiative takes up an extension that was halted more than 15 years ago and is part of a plan to modernise the C-5 with €1.35 billion to improve capacity and infrastructure. Meanwhile, improvements such as platform extensions, new tracks and a station at Móstoles-El Soto are already under way.
Although the process will be long, the project opens the door to a new rail corridor that could reduce traffic jams and journey times. For residents, it represents a key opportunity to improve the connection with Madrid and move towards more efficient and sustainable mobility.
