The plaça Catalunya shopping centre adapts to new trends

Barcelona is facing a new transformation in the heart of the city with the refurbishment of El Triangle, the shopping centre in plaça Catalunya. The project, already approved in planning terms, will change the building’s layout and commercial offer.

The renovation will create new units, widen corridors, and add parking spaces, adapting the space to current retail trends. All of this will be done without exceeding the maximum authorised floor area, although an internal reorganisation will reduce the average size of the shops.

One of the most visible changes will be the transformation of the former FNAC space, part of which will be converted into parking. Commercial use will also be expanded on floors that previously housed offices, strengthening the building’s commercial focus.

The refurbishment, led by Deka Immobilien, will involve an investment of nearly six million euros. Among the new features, the arrival of MediaMarkt stands out, as it will occupy one of the large spaces in the complex when it opens in the future, linked to the progress of the works.

Located in one of the city’s busiest areas, the shopping centre is adjusting its model for visitors who want smoother routes, specialist shops, and more flexible spaces.

The renovation will not only affect the interior of the building. Around Plaça Catalunya, the El Triangle shopping centre will see the changes bring new visitor flows, increased commercial activity, and a different experience for those passing through the area every day.
