Wind causes over 130 incidents in Madrid and mobilises firefighters
Madrid recorded more than 130 incidents this Sunday due to strong winds, which required firefighters to intervene in different parts of the city. Fallen branches, damage to façades, and unstable objects marked a day that disrupted the usual routine.
Since early morning, Madrid City Council Fire Brigade teams have attended alerts across several neighbourhoods. Between 09:00 and 20:00, they dealt with 139 incidents mainly related to falling trees and hazards on public roads.
One of the most notable incidents took place on Calle Toledo, where it was necessary to dismantle part of some scaffolding after falling debris was detected. The operation prevented greater risks in an area very busy during the weekend.
The wind also forced the temporary closure of some streets and changes to usual routes, affecting both pedestrians and drivers. At several points, municipal services secured structures to prevent further incidents.
The urban tree stock was once again one of the elements most vulnerable to this episode. Despite regular inspections, intense gusts tested the resistance of branches and trees in different districts.
For those with outdoor plans, the day required changes on the fly. Madrid responded quickly, but episodes such as this remind us how weather can immediately alter urban dynamics and force the city to adapt within hours.
