Elite Models seeks new faces at Arenas de Barcelona with no height or age limits
This Saturday, the central square at Arenas de Barcelona will seem more like an improvised catwalk than a shopping centre. Elite Models is holding a huge casting open to everyone, a call that breaks significantly with the industry’s classic image and aims to fill Plaça Espanya with very different profiles.
There is no age limit, height requirement or previous experience needed. Anyone curious about the world of fashion or simply wanting to try something different can come along and sign up on the spot. The day will begin at 11 in the morning and run until seven in the evening, with a short break at midday.
The casting will include live photo sessions and an area set up for applicants to go through the selection process in front of agency representatives and managers. According to the organisers, the idea is to open modelling up to profiles that are much more real and diverse than the usual ones.
Beyond the casting itself, the event also aims to work as a weekend plan right in the centre of Barcelona. The first people to register will receive bags with discounts and tickets for immersive experiences in the Cúpula Arenas, while the public will be able to take part by voting on looks from brands such as Mango, Desigual and Mango Man using QR codes distributed around the venue.
There is expected to be plenty of activity throughout the day in the Plaza España area, especially among young people, content creators, curious visitors and people drawn to an industry that is increasingly trying to present itself as more open and less rigid than it was a few years ago.
Arenas has long sought this hybrid role between a shopping centre and an urban venue for cultural events, fashion and leisure. Its location between Montjuïc, Gran Via and Plaza España also makes it one of the places where the constant flow of tourists, students and Barcelona residents blends best over the weekend.
Barcelona has long maintained a very direct relationship with the world of fashion, but this type of event also shows how the industry itself is changing. Less artificial perfection, more visual diversity and experiences designed for participation, not merely for watching from the outside.
