This is the best country in the world to retire to in 2025 (and Spain is not far behind)
After decades of work, choosing where to spend retirement is one of the most important decisions. International Living’s latest Global Retirement Index has just published its ranking of the world’s best countries to retire to in 2025, and the result is clear: Panama takes the crown.
According to this study, based on the real experiences of people already retired, the Central American country stands out for its stability, mild climate and affordable cost of living. It also scores points for its proximity to the United States, its accessible private health system and its visa options for expatriates. “It is like living in California, but without the stress or excessive expenses,” sums up Jess Ramesch, a contributor to the index.
Portugal comes in second, having for years established itself as one of the preferred destinations for retirement. Just after it come Costa Rica, Mexico and France. Spain is not far behind: it ranks sixth, thanks to its healthcare system, quality of life and privileged climate.
One more sign that, to enjoy a full retirement, there is no need to go too far away.
