LIBROMAD transforms Madrid with 400 activities in 100 municipalities to celebrate Día del Libro
From 23 to 26 April, LIBROMAD will offer more than 400 literary events across 100 municipalities in the region, featuring 300 authors, 130 bookshops and 120 libraries in a festival aiming to bring reading to every corner of Madrid.

Book Day week is transformed this year in Madrid with the arrival of LIBROMAD, a literary festival that promises to change the region’s cultural pulse. From 23 to 26 April, more than 400 activities will fill 100 municipalities, bringing literature to squares, libraries, bookshops and cultural spaces. The city and its surroundings are preparing to experience reading in a different way, with proposals that invite people to take to the streets and rediscover the book as a meeting point.
LIBROMAD was created with the idea of recognising everyone who makes the world of books possible: authors, publishers, librarians, booksellers and, of course, readers. Under the motto ‘The confines of books’, the festival is committed to a programme that crosses genres and formats, from workshops and exhibitions to collective readings and performances. More than 300 authors will take part in meetings and activities, joined by 130 bookshops and 120 libraries participating in the celebration.
The grand finale will be in Plaza de España, where from 11 in the morning there will be collective readings, a community hot-chocolate gathering and the literary meeting ‘Reading to re-enchant the world’, with names such as Blanca Lacasa, María Hesse, Lorenzo Silva and Manuel Vilas. Music will also have its place with Billy Boom Band, the performance artist Celeste Baker, Russian Red’s literary project and a concert by Alberto & García, which will bring the day to a close.
Families and younger people will find their own space between 11:00 and 14:00, with workshops, storytelling, performing arts activities and a literary gymkhana running through different parts of the square. In addition, a small book fair will bring together Madrid bookshops with new releases, author signings and discounts, while a food area will complete the experience for those wishing to spend the day among books and activities.
LIBROMAD thus joins Madrid’s tradition of celebrating Book Day, but does so by widening the reach and diversity of the proposals. The city adjusts its rhythm once again so that literature can be felt in every neighbourhood and every calendar, inviting Madrid residents and visitors to take part and discover new ways to read and share stories.
Plaza de España, the epicentre of LIBROMAD’s finale, has in recent years regained its role as a major meeting space in central Madrid. After its remodelling, it has become a regular venue for cultural events and outdoor activities, connecting Gran Vía, the Templo de Debod and the Palacio Real. Its spaciousness and accessibility make it ideal for hosting celebrations that seek to bring together diverse audiences and energise urban life.
