Fire on Montjuïc causes alarm and mobilises firefighters in Barcelona
A vegetation fire on Montjuïc disrupted the afternoon in Barcelona and forced the evacuation of Montjuïc Castle, as well as the suspension of the cable car. The smoke was visible from several points in the city.
The fire broke out around five in the afternoon in an area of scrubland near the camí del Far. Its rapid spread, fuelled by dry vegetation, caused concern among visitors and residents.
The response from Bombers de Barcelona was immediate, with a large deployment of vehicles, drones, and aerial support. The priority was to contain the flames and prevent risks in an area with a high number of people.
As a precaution, the castle was evacuated and the cable car service was suspended. No injuries were reported, and shortly before eight in the evening the fire was brought under control, although teams continued working in the area.
The incident once again highlights the risk of fires in urban areas with vegetation.
These kinds of events can lead to temporary closures of access routes, transport, and nearby public spaces. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of prevention in green areas, especially during dry periods. In the short term, normality is usually restored quickly, but with increased vigilance.
