Two minors spray pepper spray in a Diagonal Mar cinema, forcing 60 people to evacuate

The incident occurred at around 6.45 pm in Screen 6 at Cinesa. Within minutes, several spectators began to notice stinging eyes, coughing and difficulty breathing, to the point that staff decided to clear the space and call 112.

Two people had to be treated by the SEM for mild intoxication. Both were discharged at the shopping centre itself and did not need to be taken to hospital. The remaining attendees improved once outside the screen.

The two minors left the venue during the evacuation and tried to get away from the place. The Mossos located them shortly afterwards and took them to police premises to identify them and notify their families.

There is no record that they were arrested, and as they are minors no further information about them has emerged. Police are keeping an investigation open to clarify how the incident occurred and determine the corresponding responsibilities.

The Bombers also inspected and ventilated the premises before the screen could be considered safe again. The episode therefore completely interrupted a showing that had begun like any other summer afternoon in one of the busiest shopping centres on Barcelona’s coast.

The situation caused alarm among those inside, but left no serious injuries. The incident shows how a seemingly quick act can disrupt within seconds an enclosed space full of people, where an irritating aerosol immediately affects dozens of spectators.

Diagonal Mar later returned to its usual activity, but for a few minutes the picture was very different: spectators leaving in a hurry, emergency teams at the venue and a film stopped halfway through its screening by an action now being investigated by the Mossos.
