Pere Lluís Font dies, a key figure in Catalan philosophy and UAB professor
The death of Pere Lluís Font leaves a direct mark on Barcelona's cultural and university life. His work as a translator and teacher shaped for decades the way philosophy is studied and read in Catalan, especially at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
For more than 30 years, Font was a professor at the UAB, where he taught generations of students. His approach helped renew interest in modern philosophy and integrate it into the Catalan cultural context with accessible and rigorous language.
His legacy stands out especially in the translation of key authors such as Kant, Descartes, and Pascal. Thanks to his work, fundamental texts reached the Catalan public with an uncommon precision, making it easier to access works that had previously been more distant for local readers.
In 2025 he received the Premi d’Honor de les Lletres Catalanes, becoming the first philosopher to achieve this distinction. This recognition not only highlighted his career, but also broadened the focus on philosophy as an essential part of contemporary culture in Catalonia.
Font maintained his intellectual activity until the end. He published new works and essays in his later years, consolidating his status as a respected figure both in academia and in publishing.
