“Fas 6 anys. Tria un llibre”: more than 66,000 Catalan children will receive money to choose a book

This 2025, the campaign “Fas 6 anys. Tria un llibre” returns, an initiative that invites boys and girls to have their first experience as readers and, with an adult, discover the magic hidden in bookshops.

Promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the campaign will reach more than 66,000 boys and girls throughout the territory, who will be able to choose a book in one of the 535 participating bookshops. The aim is twofold: to encourage the reading habit from childhood and to teach the youngest children to value the book as a cultural object, beyond screens.

Every child who turns six in 2025 will receive a personalised letter at home. With it in hand, they can go with an adult to their usual bookshop and choose a children's book worth up to 13 euros. If the book costs more, they will simply have to pay the difference; if it costs less, the remaining amount will not be refunded.

The voucher can be redeemed between 15 October and 1 December 2025, or until the allocated funds run out. If the letter is not received, families can request an alternative code by emailing [email protected] before 1 December.

With this initiative, Catalonia reaffirms its commitment to culture and to the readers of the future. Because a child who chooses their first book is perhaps a reader who will keep words company all their life.
