Fiesta del Toro: in five years, Madrid has restored bullfighting's scale and gained a new audience
In five years, Fiesta del Toro has gone from being a regional initiative to becoming an event that has once again filled Madrid's bullrings with spectators and the living energy of tradition.
Since its launch in 2021, the Fiesta del Toro festival has established itself as a major cultural event in the Comunidad de Madrid, bringing together 114 bullfighting events across 26 municipalities in the region. The project has not only kept the tradition alive, but has also revived interest in towns where bullfighting events had not been held for years.
Over this period, more than 160 bullfighters have appeared in Madrid’s arenas, along with dozens of cattle ranches, many of them based in the region itself. The festival has also become a key platform for young matadors and former students of the regional bullfighting school, helping them gain access to the professional circuit.
In the final assessment, the authorities highlight the public’s ongoing interest in this format: the stands continue to see high attendance, and flagship fairs such as Otoño y San Isidro have achieved some of the best attendance figures in recent years.
