Fuenlabrada launches the ‘Christmas in company’ programme for older people
The ‘Christmas in company’ programme returns to Fuenlabrada, designed to combat loneliness among older and dependent people, especially during the festive period.
Participants enjoy special Christmas menus through the municipal meals-on-wheels service, accompanied by greetings made by teenage volunteers. It’s not just about food, but also about care and companionship so that no one feels alone during these days.
In addition to meals, volunteers offer support through phone calls and personal visits, walks or conversations, encouraging companionship and emotional wellbeing.
The programme has been running since 2021 and is part of a municipal network providing ongoing support to older people and those who are dependent. The meals-on-wheels service and social volunteering operate all year round, with extra support at Christmas, so that no neighbour has to spend the holidays alone.
