Torrejón turns its festivities into a week of free concerts
Torrejón de Ardoz is preparing for one of its busiest weeks of the year. From 19 to 24 June, the Popular Festivals will fill the city with free concerts, street activities and a special arrangement designed to absorb the arrival of thousands of residents and visitors.
The music line-up is one of the major attractions. David Bisbal, Saiko, David Bustamante, Tiësto, Leire Martínez, El Chojin, Hombres G and Andy will appear at the Recinto de Conciertos, alongside several tributes and homages to great voices of Spanish music.
Not all concerts will work in the same way. Performances by Tiësto, David Bisbal, Leire Martínez, Hombres G and Saiko will require an advance invitation, whereas other live shows, such as those by El Chojin, David Bustamante and Andy, will have free entry until capacity is reached.
For Torrejón, the event has a clear impact on daily life. The Recinto de Conciertos and Recinto Ferial will concentrate much of the movement, with more traffic, more activity in hospitality and changes to the usual journeys of those living near the area.
The programme also looks beyond the big names. There will be children’s activities, Feria de Día-Tardeo, Noche del Fuego, Desfile de Peñas and Feria Taurina, with bullfights, recortes and night-time and morning bull runs. The city will experience several days with its calendar almost taken over by the festivities.
Some concerts with a special character are among the most anticipated moments. Saiko and David Bisbal will perform on their only dates in the Community of Madrid, while Tiësto will arrive for one of his few dates in Spain, together with Festival Medusa. Hombres G will also have an exclusive concert in the region.
The City Council has reinforced security and healthcare in the areas with the greatest attendance, especially at the fairground and around the peñas. The Recinto de Conciertos stage has been reoriented to reduce inconvenience to residents, an important detail in a celebration taking place very close to inhabited areas.
For people living in Torrejón, these festivities mean much more than a concert calendar. They are days of full streets, free plans, more movement in neighbourhoods and an opportunity to enjoy top-level artists without leaving the municipality or paying admission.
