A fault between Clot and Arc de Triomf disrupts Rodalies this Sunday
Sunday has begun with problems for thousands of Rodalies users in Barcelona. An incident in the railway infrastructure between Clot and Arc de Triomf has been disrupting several key lines on the network since early morning, forcing many passengers to improvise alternative routes or allow more travel time.
The main affected lines are R1, R2 Sud and R4. On R1, trains bound for L’Hospitalet are diverted via Passeig de Gràcia and no longer stop at Plaça Catalunya and Arc de Triomf. In addition, the frequency is reduced to just two trains per hour in each direction, something that is already causing longer-than-usual waits at stations in Maresme and Barcelona.
The situation also has a full impact on R2 Sud, which runs with only two trainsets per hour in each direction for much of the day. At the same time, R4 diverts trains towards Passeig de Gràcia in the direction of Sant Vicenç de Calders and temporarily removes important stops such as Torre Baró, Fabra i Puig, Sagrera, Arc de Triomf and Plaça Catalunya.
To try to ease the impact, Rodalies has set up a shuttle service between Terrassa and Fabra i Puig. In addition, trains between Vilafranca and Manresa begin and end their route at L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, forcing many passengers to reorganise connections and changes in the middle of a Sunday.
The incident once again puts the spotlight on one of the most sensitive points in Barcelona’s rail network. The section between Clot, Arc de Triomf and Plaça Catalunya concentrates a large part of the metropolitan connections, and any technical problem ends up quickly affecting dozens of municipalities around Barcelona.
For many regular users, especially those who work at weekends or return to the city after spending Saturday away, the morning has once again been marked by uncertainty on information boards, platform changes and hard-to-predict waiting times.
