Ideal Flor and a major park: how Prosperitat will change in 2026

La Prosperitat, in Nou Barris, is about to undergo a long-awaited transformation. Barcelona City Council has given the green light to the construction of the Ideal Flor cultural centre and the creation of a large square on the site where this facility will stand. Both projects, with a joint investment of 37.5 million euros, will go out to tender in January and works will begin in the second half of 2026. The aim is for the new space to be operational by the end of 2028.

The future municipal building will have 6,500 m² and will house a library, an auditorium, a gymnasium and spaces for neighbourhood organisations. It will be located at the intersection of paseo de Valldaura with Font de Canyelles, Santa Engràcia and Turó Blau streets. Councillor Xavier Marcé has highlighted that the library will follow the model of the Gabriel García Márquez, recognised for its architectural quality.

The auditorium is intended to host top-level cultural activities, while the gymnasium will meet demand from the nearby school, which lacks this type of facility. Marcé stressed that Ideal Flor is a commitment to place Nou Barris at the centre of the city’s cultural life.

The large square accompanying the facility will be designed as a forest of deciduous trees and will include a children’s play area. The intervention will cover more than 4,500 m², although the total area will reach 8,000 m², since stretches of the adjoining streets will also be improved.

The name Ideal Flor pays tribute to the former Ideal Plástica Flor factory, which occupied the area from 1956 and was the last industry to close in the neighbourhood in the 1990s. With these projects, La Prosperitat recovers an emblematic space and transforms it into a new cultural and green lung for Nou Barris.
