IMDb takes stock of the year: films and series that aroused the most curiosity among viewers

IMDb has published its annual roundup of the titles that drew the most searches and visits on the platform throughout the year. The ranking does not measure box office or audiences, but users’ real interest, reflected in the portal’s most consulted pages.

In the film category, the lead went to Superman, the new version directed by James Gunn. The superhero’s return, with David Corenswet as Clark Kent, held the public’s attention from filming through to the official announcement of a sequel. In second place is the thriller Weapons, much discussed for its unconventional narrative structure, while third place goes to Sinners, one of the most nominated films of awards season.

The top 10 is completed by titles as diverse as Jurassic World: Rebirth, Frankenstein, Thunderbolts, the new Misión Imposible instalment and the sports drama F1, confirming the weight of major franchises in searches.

In television, interest centred on The White Lotus, which became the year’s most consulted series despite dividing audiences with its slower pace. It is followed by The Last of Us, driven by the impact of its new cast, and Severance, whose second season reinforced its status as a cult series. Wednesday, Squid Game, Andor and Black Mirror also made the list.

As every year, IMDb also published its editorial selection, which differs noticeably from that of the public. For the editorial team, the standout film was Battle After Battle, while for series they chose riskier proposals such as Andor or The Rehearsal.

The figures confirm a clear trend: major releases attract peaks of attention, but series with complex universes and unconventional narratives sustain interest in the long term.
