Italfarmaco boosts Alcobendas with a multi-million investment and new production

The Italian pharmaceutical company Italfarmaco has decided to invest 10 million euros in its Alcobendas plant, thereby reinforcing the role of the Comunidad de Madrid as a logistics and production benchmark in the European pharmaceutical sector. The company has launched a new production line, with the aim of optimising efficiency and increasing industrial capacity in the region.

During a visit to the facilities, the regional Minister for Economy, Finance and Employment, Rocío Albert, stressed that this business commitment aligns with the regional strategy of attracting innovative industrial projects that generate skilled employment. According to data from the regional government, Madrid currently has 78 companies dedicated to manufacturing pharmaceutical products, accounting for 22.1% of the national total and a turnover of 5.106 billion euros, equivalent to 25.7% of the sector in Spain.

Internationally, pharmaceutical exports from Madrid reached 7.469 billion euros in 2024, representing 42.3% of the national total and showing notable growth compared with the years before the pandemic.

Albert highlighted that the arrival of investments such as Italfarmaco’s consolidates municipalities such as Alcobendas as hubs for attracting scientific and technical talent, attributing these results to institutional stability and a tax environment favourable to innovation.

Founded in 1938, Italfarmaco focuses its activity in Spain on the research and production of prescription medicines, hospital products and areas such as oncology, immunology, fertility and cardiovascular care. The Alcobendas plant has become one of the group’s key facilities in Europe, thanks to its advanced technology and international orientation.
