The first section of the third lane on the M-607 between Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo opens and promises to reduce traffic jams from today
Traffic in northern Madrid starts to change from today. The opening of the first four kilometres of the third lane on the M-607 marks a turning point for thousands of drivers who travel every day between Tres Cantos and Colmenar Viejo, one of the region's most congested corridors.
This first section, now open in both directions, runs between kilometres 23.1 and 25 and helps ease some of the usual rush hour congestion. More than 62,000 vehicles use this road every day, which connects growing residential areas with workplaces and services in the capital.
The expansion is part of a larger project that will cover 15 kilometres and is set to be completed in 2027. In total, over 246,000 residents from 13 municipalities will benefit from an infrastructure designed to accommodate population growth and increased pressure on mobility along the northern corridor.
The initiative, led by the Comunidad de Madrid, includes not only the new lane but also improvements in road safety and the continuation of the cycle lane linking Colmenar Viejo with the city, although with temporary adjustments during the works. In the coming months, new sections are expected to open as work progresses.
One of the most innovative features of the project will be the construction of an ecoduct near Colmenar Viejo. This overpass, 60 metres wide and 140 metres long, will allow wildlife to cross safely, reducing the risk of accidents and becoming a pioneering piece of infrastructure in the region.
The M-607 is a strategic road connecting municipalities, business parks, and natural areas. Its transformation aims not only to reduce travel times but also to improve safety and adapt the road to increasingly demanding mobility needs in the metropolitan area of Madrid.
