The Passeig de Gràcia Apple Store reopens with a new design after more than three months of works
The Passeig de Gràcia Apple Store reopens this 26 May after more than three months closed for works. The shop, at number 1 on the avenue, at the heart of the junction with Plaça Catalunya, resumes activity with a renewed design and a warmer look than many Barcelonans remembered.
The closure began in mid-February and had generated considerable anticipation, both among regular Apple users and people curious about retail architecture. It was no ordinary shop: Passeig de Gràcia is one of the brand's flagship spaces in Europe and occupies a former bank building with a stone façade in one of Barcelona's busiest areas.
The refurbishment mainly changes the interior experience. The new space opts for more natural materials, warm light, a renewed staircase and a more open layout, designed so that the shop functions not only as a point of sale, but also as a place for support, training and Today at Apple sessions.
Key elements of the premises have also been updated, such as finishes, furniture, internal systems and service areas. The intervention seeks to adapt the shop to Apple's most recent standards, similar to those at other refurbished locations in cities such as London and Madrid.
For customers, the most practical change will be the return of all services to the city centre. During the works, the main alternative was the La Maquinista shop, much less convenient for people who work, live or regularly travel through Eixample, Gràcia or Ciutat Vella.
The reopening also comes in a normal week of shopping, tourism and activity along Passeig de Gràcia, which will restore footfall to a corner accustomed to queues, product launches and visitors who come in even if they buy nothing. Apple reports extended hours, with opening until 21:00 in the first days after the return.
The shop originally opened in 2012 and was already refurbished in 2019, but this new intervention seeks to update it for a different generation of retail: less of a cold display window, more space to stay and an aesthetic closer to the latest international Apple Stores.
In a city where central shopping increasingly competes to offer something more than a quick sale, the reopening has a clear meaning. The Apple Store on Passeig de Gràcia is not just a technology shop: it is a place to pass through, wait, repair, learn and engage in urban tourism. Its return reinforces the commercial appeal of the axis between Plaça Catalunya and Eixample, and recalls that some brands no longer seek only to sell products, but to occupy a visible place in the city's daily life.
UPD: One month after reopening, the shop is already operating with normalised hours and services. Apple Passeig de Gràcia opens Monday to Saturday from 9:30 to 21:30 and remains closed on Sundays, offering online order collection, Genius Bar and personalised support. Programming has also regained prominence within the new design, with Today at Apple sessions, free activities for children aged 6 to 10 as part of Apple Camp and workshops to discover Apple Intelligence, reinforcing the idea that the space is once again more than a shop people simply pass through in central Barcelona.
