A recent audit has confirmed that the Catalan laboratory IRTA-CReSA meets the biosecurity standards needed to work with the African swine fever virus. The report, prepared by independent experts, comprehensively assessed control systems, waste management and staff training.
The auditors concluded that the facilities have adequate measures to prevent any leak or incident related to pathogenic agents. However, they stressed that definitive conclusions about the origin of the infection can only be established after comparing the virus present at the facility with that detected in wild boar.
