The C-5 returns to its full route and makes travel around Madrid easier
The C-5 Cercanías line returns to its usual route this Sunday and removes the transfer at Atocha. The change comes just before the end of Easter Week and improves the daily journeys of thousands of travellers.
In recent weeks, trains were terminating at Atocha Cercanías, forcing passengers to change trains to continue their journey. Now, the direct connection is running again in both directions, making travel between the south and west of the city faster.
The impact is especially noticeable in areas like Villaverde Alto or Humanes, where many people rely on this line to cross Madrid without interruptions. Restoring the full route means saving time and avoiding waits during peak hours.
The works at Atocha, which have progressed faster than expected, are part of a plan to increase the station’s capacity. This hub, along with places like Sol or Nuevos Ministerios, handles a large share of Cercanías traffic in the city.
Even so, not all changes are finished. Other lines such as the C-3 and C-4 will continue to have adjustments to night schedules in the coming days, so it’s advisable to check routes before travelling.
