The 2025 income-tax campaign begins with new advantages and more digital control

The income-tax campaign is already under way in Spain and comes with new features affecting almost everyone. The Ministry of Finance is introducing a simpler format and measures designed to make the process easier for taxpayers.

One of the most significant changes is the strengthening of deductions and exemptions for people with low incomes. The aim is to ease the tax burden in a context where the cost of living remains high, especially in urban areas.

Digitalisation is also a hallmark of this campaign. The tax authorities are stepping up control over transactions carried out on platforms such as Wallapop, payments via Bizum, and movements involving cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

In practice, this means that those who earn income from second-hand sales or digital activities will need to review their transactions carefully. The authorities now have more tools to cross-check data and detect possible irregularities.

The campaign will run over the coming months and will once again mobilise thousands of taxpayers. For many, the process will be more streamlined; for others, it will require greater attention to their digital transactions.

Income tax is evolving in step with the economy. What once went unnoticed is now on the tax radar, in a city where more and more income is generated outside traditional channels.
