Casa Hurtado is reborn: from modernist jewel to the cultural heart of Pedralbes

Casa Hurtado, a Modernista tower by the architect Guillem Busquets built between 1904 and 1906, is preparing to begin a new life as a public facility that will combine music, culture and neighbourhood life in the heart of the Pedralbes district.

The City Council has approved the comprehensive rehabilitation project for this emblematic property at 46–48 Avinguda de Pedralbes. Its transformation will not be merely architectural, but symbolic too: from a summer residence for Barcelona's bourgeoisie to a living space, open to the neighbourhood and to the public.

The building will house the future headquarters of the Fundació Victoria de los Ángeles, with rehearsal rooms, exhibitions, small-format concerts and work areas for local associations. The main floors will recover their original splendour to become stages for culture, while the upper spaces will fill with music and neighbourhood participation.

The project also includes restoring the garden and work across the whole plot to respect the Modernista essence of the complex. Construction will begin at the start of 2026, with an expected duration of 14 months and a budget of 2.4 million euros.

With this action, Casa Hurtado ceases to be a dormant building and becomes a new cultural heartbeat in the heart of les Corts.
