Reina Sofía's 1975-present collection, Manuel Segade's first project

Museo Reina Sofía has unveiled the new version of its permanent collection, dedicated to the period from 1975 to the present. This is the first major project by Manuel Segade, who took over as director of the museum in 2023.

The exhibition is located on the fourth floor of the Sabatini building and is designed as a sequential journey through artistic processes following the restoration of democracy in Spain. The new section is titled simply Colección. Arte Contemporáneo: 1975-presente and offers a more open structure, without an overloaded theoretical framework.

According to the museum team, the renovation aims to make the collection easier to understand and more accessible to a diverse audience, while preserving the historical and international context of contemporary art.
