Colonia Güell is preparing a unique experience on 4 October. It will recreate the laying of its foundation stone and offer a free drone show. The event forms part of Fiesta del Modernismo and promises to surprise those seeking different plans near Barcelona.
This autumn, those looking for original plans near Barcelona have an unmissable date at Colonia Güell. On 4 October, the emblematic site in Santa Coloma de Cervelló will be transformed to commemorate the moment Antoni Gaudí laid the foundation stone of this singular industrial complex, 118 years ago.
The day will begin at 18:00 with a historical re-enactment transporting attendees to 1908, at the height of modernism. The atmosphere will be filled with period details and Sunday’s central procession will stage how that founding day was experienced, as part of the traditional Fiesta del Modernismo, which attracts residents and curious visitors every year.
But the great new feature of this edition will be the free illuminated drone show, which will light up the sky over Colonia Güell after the procession. The figures drawn by the drones will be inspired by the organic and geometric forms that characterise Gaudí’s creative universe, offering an unprecedented visual experience in the area.
In addition, those wishing to delve into the architect’s work can visit Catedral de Barcelona, where a virtual-reality experience is exhibited that allows visitors to enter the mind and workshop of Antoni Gaudí.
Colonia Güell is much more than a modernist industrial complex: it represents one of Catalonia’s most singular social and architectural experiments. Conceived at the end of the 19th century, it was promoted by the Güell family as a space where industry, housing and culture coexisted in harmony. The crypt designed by Gaudí, declared a World Heritage Site, is only one example of the legacy that still attracts visitors and scholars from around the world.
