The Community of Madrid breaks its historic record and exceeds 7.1 million inhabitants
Madrid is experiencing a moment of unprecedented growth: the region now has more than 7.1 million people registered, a figure reached at the end of June 2025 and a new high in its history, according to provisional estimates from the National Statistics Institute (INE). The increase represents 1.43% more than a year ago and consolidates the capital and its surrounding area as one of Spain's main centres of attraction.
The demographic upturn is largely due to the arrival of people born outside the country, who find job opportunities, a strong business fabric and a cultural and educational offering in Madrid that competes internationally. Nationally, Spain has also broken its own record, with 49.3 million residents.
The Madrid regional government has welcomed the figures and stressed that this momentum requires public services to be reinforced. “This growth is a clear sign that Madrid is a place where people want to live and develop. Our commitment is to ensure that everyone has access to the best healthcare, education and transport,” said Miguel Ángel García Martín, the Regional Minister for the Presidency, Justice and Local Administration.
With sustained economic dynamism and a quality of life that continues to attract talent, the Community of Madrid is consolidating its position as the country’s demographic and social engine.
