La Concepción faces a 2.9-million-euro refurbishment that will last until 2027
La Concepción Municipal Sports Centre, in Ciudad Lineal, will undergo a 2.9-million-euro refurbishment affecting much of its facilities. Madrid City Council has approved the works contract and expects to begin the first works between October and November, on a timetable extending until the end of 2027.
One of the most visible changes will come to the 11-a-side football pitch. The stands beside Hermanos de Pablo Street, along with the section left pending for renewal during an earlier intervention, will be replaced with prefabricated elements. The canopy will be repaired and the storage rooms at the corners of the stands will also be improved.
The refurbishment will also extend to the main building. The changing rooms in the multipurpose hall will be completely remodelled, and the current weights and exercise-machine room will be moved to a larger space. Its current location will be reused to create changing rooms for staff and referees.
The flooring of the multi-sport court inside the hall will also be replaced, and a new fire-detection system compliant with current regulations will be installed. Insulating cladding will be added to the façade to improve its thermal performance and bring it in line with that used previously in other parts of the building.
The outdoor swimming pools are also included in the project. The City Council will renew the surrounds around the pool basins, whose paving has been damaged by tree growth. On the lower level of the entrance building, new changing rooms for users and a rest area for workers will also be created.
The intervention also includes less visible but important improvements for day-to-day operation. Work will be carried out on rainwater drainage around the skating rink, the waterproofing of several spaces will be renewed, and construction defects that arise during the works will be repaired.
Users will notice the works before the end of the year. The centre’s own municipal listing warns that work will gradually begin in different areas during October and November, and that some sporting activities will have to be temporarily suspended as the work progresses.
The City Council has not yet specified which classes, courts or services will close first, or how long each activity will be affected. The centre, located at José del Hierro, 5, will continue to inform its users as the works timetable is finalised.
