Móstoles unlocks the PAU-4 connection to the R-5 after years of waiting
Móstoles has taken an important step to resolve one of PAU-4's historic demands. The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has approved the direct connection between this residential development and the R-5 motorway, infrastructure residents have sought for years to improve access to the neighbourhood.
The decision unlocks a project that had long been accumulating procedures, reports and negotiations between Móstoles City Council, the Community of Madrid and the State. Only a few days ago, Mayor Manuel Bautista had requested an urgent meeting with Minister Óscar Puente to speed up the final resolution, after the technical reports had already been favourable.
The junction will make it possible to connect PAU-4, also known as Móstoles Sur, more directly to the R-5 radial road. For people living in this area, the change may be particularly noticeable in daily journeys, when access routes towards the M-506, A-5 or M-50 often concentrate traffic and congestion.
The City Council celebrates the authorisation as a victory for residents and the municipality. Bautista has argued that the connection was a priority from the start of the term and highlighted the technical work carried out with the Community of Madrid over recent years to meet the Ministry’s requirements.
Even so, the scope of the news should be qualified: the connection has been unlocked, but that does not mean cars will immediately be using the new access. The next step will be to move towards the start of works, whose implementation will mark the real change to mobility in the neighbourhood.
PAU-4 is one of the residential areas that has grown most in Móstoles, with new families, more vehicles and growing pressure on existing access routes. That is why this infrastructure is seen not only as a road improvement, but as a response to an everyday problem: leaving and entering the neighbourhood without always depending on the same bottlenecks.
For Móstoles, the link with the R-5 may be a key piece in its metropolitan integration. If the works advance without new blockages, PAU-4 will gain a more agile connection with Madrid and the south-west of the region. After years of promises, reports and delays, residents are beginning to see closer a solution that directly affects their time, journeys and everyday quality of life.
