Cursa dels 150 Anys filled El Prat with sport and festive atmosphere
Barcelona and its surroundings experienced a sporting event with a very local flavour this weekend. Estrella Damm celebrated its 150th anniversary with a popular race in El Prat de Llobregat, very close to Fábrica Damm, on a day that blended sport, festive atmosphere and brewing history.
The Cursa dels 150 Anys was held on Saturday 13 June at 20:30, starting at the Granja de la Ricarda. The evening timetable helped turn the event into a summer plan, with amateur runners, companions and local residents gathered around an anniversary closely linked to Barcelona.
The choice of location was no coincidence. El Prat is part of Damm's industrial and emotional map, and the race made it possible to take the anniversary beyond the more usual format of concerts or corporate events and turn it into a shared experience.
The event formed part of the celebrations for 150 years of a brand founded in Barcelona in 1876. After other cultural and musical events linked to the anniversary, the race took the celebration into the sporting arena, with an offering open to enthusiasts and amateur runners.
Participants had chip timing, liquid and solid refreshments, a cloakroom, medical assistance and a commemorative technical T-shirt. Prizes were also awarded to the leading overall finishers in the men's and women's categories, as well as specific awards for runners connected to Damm.
The day once again showed the importance of amateur races in the metropolitan calendar. Beyond competition, this type of event serves as a meeting point, activates public space and connects Barcelona with key municipalities in its surroundings.
Access from Barcelona and other points in the metropolitan area could be made by public transport, with metro, bus and Renfe connections, as well as shared-mobility options such as AMBici. This metropolitan dimension was one of the keys to an event designed to attract both runners and companions.
The race left a clear image: major anniversaries are no longer celebrated only in closed venues or through institutional events. They can also be experienced in the street, with trainers, race bibs and a summer atmosphere, turning a corporate date into a shared sporting celebration.
