The Cursa El Corte Inglés aims to reach 50,000 runners in Barcelona
Barcelona is preparing to break a record. The Cursa El Corte Inglés has reopened registrations after selling out the initial 40,000 race numbers and now aims to bring together 50,000 runners on its streets.
The growth in participation reflects the appeal of an event that forms part of the city’s sporting and social calendar. The route will pass along key arteries such as Diagonal, Passeig de Gràcia and Gran Via, linking emblematic points from Maria Cristina to Plaça Catalunya.
This year, the charitable dimension becomes more prominent. Fundació Johan Cruyff will benefit from the official T-shirt, designed by artist Marina Capdevila. All proceeds will go to adapted sport programmes for children and young people.
The context adds symbolic value: ten years have passed since the death of Johan Cruyff, a key figure in the city’s sporting history and a reference point in promoting inclusive sport.
The course retains its accessible character, designed both for regular runners and for those looking to enjoy the atmosphere. The favourable elevation profile makes the route easier, although it prevents official times from being certified.
Beyond times, the event stands out for its ability to bring together thousands of people around sport and the city. Iconic streets are transformed into a circuit where effort, leisure and participation coexist.
Barcelona once again demonstrates its connection with grassroots sport. The race does not merely add runners: it reinforces the link between the city, physical activity and the social causes that define its present.
