EMT turns its buses into mobile libraries with free readings by great authors
Travelling by bus around Madrid is now also a way to read Lorca, Galdós or Pardo Bazán. The new ‘Your library one click away’ campaign invites people to discover literature while travelling around the city.
From this week, daily journeys through the capital can become a literary pause thanks to an initiative that combines culture, technology and public transport. The Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMT), in collaboration with the Dirección General de Bibliotecas, has launched the campaign “Your library one click away”, allowing users to access classic novels through QR codes located inside buses and at bus shelters.
In total, 300 buses on the network already offer free access to eight works by major figures in Spanish literature. Available titles include Blood Wedding by Federico García Lorca, Miau by Benito Pérez Galdós, Los Pazos de Ulloa by Emilia Pardo Bazán and A sangre y fuego by Manuel Chaves Nogales. The books can be downloaded directly onto a mobile phone, with no registration or external platforms.
With this proposal, Madrid is committed to bringing reading closer to every audience, using everyday spaces such as transport to encourage the reading habit. Because sometimes the best place to start a book is right between Moncloa and Atocha.
