Future judges will temporarily train at the Ciutat de la Justícia
The Escuela Judicial will begin the next academic year at a new temporary location. Its students and teachers will move to the Ciutat de la Justícia while the usual Vallvidrera headquarters is being renovated, a change that brings the training of future judges together in Barcelona's main judicial complex.
The new premises occupy the entire seventh floor of Building D, with an area of 1,239 square metres. The space is already fitted out to keep teaching activity running without interruption for the duration of the works.
The floor has six classrooms, a teachers’ room, a multipurpose assembly room and several offices for management and administration. It also has meeting rooms, premises for IT staff and a medical consulting room.
The move changes the daily routine of pupils and teaching staff, who will temporarily leave the Collserola area to travel to the border between Barcelona and L’Hospitalet. The new site is better connected by Metro, buses and the metropolitan rail network.
The Minister of Justice and Democratic Quality, Ramon Espadaler, has opened the facilities and highlighted the advantage of locating the Judicial School next to courts and tribunals. Future judges will thus live alongside the complex’s day-to-day activity during their training period.
The move is temporary and responds exclusively to the rehabilitation of the Vallvidrera building. The floor’s adaptation makes it possible to retain all necessary services until the Judicial School can return to its usual headquarters.
The Ciutat de la Justícia brings together a large part of Barcelona’s and L’Hospitalet’s judicial bodies, and every day receives professionals, workers and citizens attending trials or dealing with procedures. The arrival of the new pupils will add another layer of activity to a complex already marked by constant movement.
The change brings judicial training much closer to the corridors, rooms and offices where its pupils will spend much of their careers. During the coming academic years, theory will share a building with the real operation of Barcelona’s justice system.
