Ciempozuelos will renew its station with lifts and new platforms
Ciempozuelos station will undergo a comprehensive refurbishment to improve accessibility, extend the platforms and make daily journeys easier on the C-3 Cercanías line. Adif has awarded the drafting of the project for €952,044.78, a step before works that will transform both the station and its surroundings.
The project plans to widen the central platform and the one next to the station building. This change will allow for the installation of lifts and escalators, as well as the removal of barriers for people with reduced mobility, travellers with luggage, and families with pushchairs.
The underpass connecting the platforms will also be extended and adapted to the new layout. In addition, larger canopies will be installed to provide better protection from rain and sun while waiting.
The renovation will also affect the tracks. The current track 3 will be removed and a new 750-metre siding will be built, equipped with safety systems at both ends. Drainage, electrification, and various elements of the railway infrastructure will also be reviewed.
Adif will also study whether it is necessary to modify nearby underpasses or overpasses. These decisions will depend on how the new tracks, widened platforms, and access points fit within the current layout.
The project includes the refurbishment of the station building, the restoration of the warehouse, and the enhancement of the old railway signal box. The aim is to modernise the station without losing the historical elements that are part of its identity.
Outside, pedestrian and vehicle access will be renewed, parking lighting will be improved, and the bus bays will be reorganised. The intention is to make transfers easier and reduce the distance between Cercanías, bus, and car.
The contract will have a first phase of 24 months to draft the project and another 12 months of technical support during the works. The changes, therefore, will not be immediate, but will mark a major renewal of one of the main mobility hubs in the south of Madrid.
