F1 is over, but road closures continue at IFEMA y Valdebebas until Sunday
The Gran Premio de España ended on Sunday, but MADRING will still affect traffic around IFEMA y Valdebebas throughout this week. Starting this Tuesday, 15 September, a new phase of closures begins related to the dismantling of the temporary circuit facilities, with restrictions expected until Sunday the 20th.
The disruptions are concentrated on several of the roads surrounding the fairgrounds. Ribera del Sena remains closed from number 13 to the Edimburgo roundabout and also from this roundabout towards the M-40.
Different sections of Vía de Dublín are also affected. The City Council is keeping the stretch between the Edimburgo roundabout and Ariadna street closed, and then from the junction with Ariadna to the Sintra roundabout. Francisco Umbral remains closed from Vía de Dublín to beyond the Pascual Bravo roundabout.
The restrictions also affect three major roundabouts in the area. The junction of Vía de Dublín and its access from Ariadna, the Francisco Umbral roundabout—although access to the petrol station from the connection with the M-11 remains open—and the Pascual Bravo roundabout along with its access from Camino Alto de Hortaleza are all affected.
Public transport has also not yet fully returned to normal. EMT line 171, which connects Mar de Cristal with Valdebebas, is running on a modified route while work related to the circuit continues. The City Council recommends using public transport and avoiding driving on the affected roads whenever possible.
This new phase comes after a weekend in which the IFEMA area saw one of the largest mobility operations held so far in this part of Madrid. During the Gran Premio, additional restrictions, access rings, and specific controls were put in place to manage the arrival and departure of tens of thousands of spectators. Those exceptional measures linked to the races have ended, but not the closures needed to return the streets to their usual layout.
The reason is that much of MADRING uses temporary infrastructure. After the public leaves, barriers, stands, technical areas, and other elements installed around the semi-urban circuit need to be dismantled. The City Council had already set aside 15 to 20 September to carry out this work and keep several roads occupied while the removal is completed.
For those who work at IFEMA, live in Valdebebas, or regularly use these access points, full normality will therefore not return immediately after Formula 1. The date marking the expected end of this phase is Sunday, 20 September, although the specific conditions may change depending on the progress of the work and the needs of the traffic operation.
