Font Màgica modernises and pauses its shows to complete the works
Font Màgica de Montjuïc is being renewed to offer a more immersive and sustainable experience. The City Council has updated its sound and lighting system, with technology that improves the quality of the show and reduces the acoustic impact on the surroundings.
The most noticeable change is in the sound. The new speakers, integrated into the fountain itself, provide more even coverage and precise volume control, improving the experience without disturbing the neighbours.
To complete the work, the shows will be temporarily paused on 9, 10, and 11 April. This break will allow the finishing touches to be made inside the installation and the system to be adjusted before regular operation resumes.
The renovation also includes improvements to the lighting. Thousands of incandescent bulbs have been replaced with LED fixtures, maintaining the visual effect while drastically reducing energy consumption.
The project is part of a broader plan for the maintenance and modernisation of the city's ornamental fountains, with investments planned through 2028.
The Font Màgica, created for the 1929 International Exposition, remains one of Barcelona's great symbols. With this update, the show adapts to current demands without losing its essence, combining tradition, technology, and sustainability in the heart of Montjuïc.
