The Generalitat cuts the price of Medicine in Vic with unprecedented aid
Studying Medicine at the Universitat de Vic-Universitat Central de Catalunya will be more accessible next academic year. The Generalitat has announced a new aid scheme that reduces the annual cost of enrolment from €13,500 to €7,560, a reduction of 44%.
The system is based on forgivable loans: students will not have to repay the aid if they complete their degree at the Vic campus. If they drop out, they will only have to repay the proportional part not studied.
The measure comes in a context of high demand for Medicine places and seeks to broaden access outside major cities. It also responds to the need to strengthen healthcare training in areas with a smaller university offering.
In addition, new places have been authorised for the coming academic year. UVic will expand its capacity, consolidating its role within the Catalan university system with a hybrid model between the public and private sectors.
The planned investment is around four million euros and forms part of a broader strategy to decentralise key studies and facilitate access to degrees with high demand.
The measure may make it easier for more students to access Medicine without depending on universities in major cities. It also helps future professionals train close to their surroundings and remain in the area. In the medium term, this may affect the availability of doctors and the territorial balance of the healthcare system.
