The historic chapel of IES San Isidro once again displays its Baroque vault

The Comunidad de Madrid has completed the full restoration of the mural paintings that decorate the vault of the Chapel of the Immaculate at IES San Isidro, the oldest institute in the capital. After years of deterioration caused by humidity and the passage of time, this emblematic space has regained its Baroque splendour and strengthened its value as a historical and artistic heritage site for the city.

For a long time, the vault of this small chapel, which was once part of the old Colegio Imperial de Madrid and the Reales Estudios de San Isidro, suffered severe damage. Stains, blisters, and flaking exposed earlier layers of paint, putting the integrity of the original work at risk.

The intervention, led by the Comunidad de Madrid, has restored the chapel to its original appearance. The work has removed signs of wear and brought back the colours and details that characterise the Baroque sky of the vault. With this action, the conservation of a key space for Madrid's educational and cultural history is ensured.
