The historic Soto del Real station is reborn as a key Cercanías Madrid hub
Soto del Real station is being transformed with multi-million-euro investment to become, with more than 400 m², a café and a large car park, a new landmark in northern Madrid.
The former Soto del Real station, declared a Heritage Asset of Interest, is preparing for a complete transformation. The landmark building, constructed in 1955, will be refurbished and adapted as part of the extension of the C-4b line of Cercanías Madrid, with an investment of more than 17 million euros.
The project, promoted by Adif, provides for the comprehensive restoration of the historic building, respecting its original design and architectural features. The property, of more than 400 square metres spread over two floors, will house a concourse, ticket sales area, toilets and adapted spaces, as well as solar energy and natural ventilation systems.
The new Soto Sur station will serve the extension of the C-4b line, connecting Colmenar Viejo with Soto del Real and making access easier to towns such as Miraflores de la Sierra and Guadalix de la Sierra. The scheme includes the construction of a new catering building to the north, two technical structures to the south and the complete renewal of the platforms, which will have canopies and will be linked by an underpass with stairs and lifts.
Outside, the station will have a car park with more than 500 spaces, renewed road access, a cycle lane and space for other modes of transport. The intervention aims not only to modernise the infrastructure, but also to enhance the area’s architectural heritage and improve mobility in the north of the Community of Madrid.
