CNB's historic diving pool is reborn in Barcelona after being closed for 23 years
Barcelona is recovering one of its most emblematic sports facilities with the reopening of the diving pool at Club Natació Barcelona. After being closed for more than two decades, the facility at l’Escullera will return to activity in approximately a year, giving the city back a unique indoor facility.
The facility stands out not only for its practical value, but also for its historical character. Founded in 1922, the club was a pioneer with Spain's first indoor swimming pool and one of the first in the world with heated seawater. Now, its art deco diving pool is preparing for a second life as the only covered facility of its kind in all Barcelona.
The reopening expands the possibilities for athletes, clubs and users who until now have not had a suitable space for indoor diving training. It also opens the door to new competitions and activities, strengthening a discipline that has historically carried weight in the city, especially since the 1992 Olympic Games.
The project responds to a demand made for years by the aquatic community, which had called for facilities adapted to current needs to be restored. The return of this space makes it possible to diversify the sporting offering in an environment where demand continues to grow.
Restoring infrastructure such as this not only brings activity back to an emblematic space, but also strengthens access to sport in the city.
