Cercanías Madrid will have fewer trains this Friday because of the strike
Cercanías Madrid users should check their train times before travelling this Friday 31 July. The 24-hour strike called at Renfe will reduce frequencies on all lines and may lead to longer waits on a day also marked by the August getaway operation.
During peak hours, 75% of scheduled trains will run. These periods will be from 6:00 to 9:00, 13:30 to 15:30, and 18:30 to 20:30, coinciding with the times of highest demand on the Madrid network.
For the rest of the day, 50% of the usual service will be maintained. The reduction may increase the time between trains and lead to more passengers on the platforms, especially mid-morning, in the afternoon, and during the last hours of service.
The strike will affect all Cercanías lines and may disrupt both departure times and connections between trains. Those who need to make several transfers should allow extra time to get to work, attend an appointment, or connect with long-distance services.
Renfe recommends checking updated information before heading to the station. Timetables can be checked on the official app, through Cercanías Madrid channels, on station information boards, or by calling the customer service number.
The protest will also have consequences for other rail services. On Alta Velocidad y Larga Distancia, 73% of scheduled trains will run, while Media Distancia will maintain approximately 65% of its usual service.
The strike coincides with the start of one of the busiest travel weekends of the summer. In addition to regular journeys, there will be those heading to stations such as Atocha or Chamartín to start their holidays, which may increase occupancy on certain routes.
The day will see longer intervals between trains and possible last-minute changes on a network used daily by thousands of people. Checking your specific train before leaving and having an alternative route in mind will help reduce the impact of the strike on your journey.
