L1 leaves three stations without service until the end of August
Getting between Barcelona and L’Hospitalet will be more difficult for the next six weeks. Metro line L1 will suspend service between Florida and Plaça de Sants from Friday 17 July until the end of the day on 28 August because of comprehensive track-renewal works.
The closure will leave Torrassa, Santa Eulàlia and Mercat Nou stations without trains. Florida and Plaça de Sants will remain open, but will operate as temporary termini for the two sections of the red line that will remain in service.
Works will be concentrated between Santa Eulàlia and Mercat Nou, where tracks and other infrastructure elements will be renewed. The equipment that connects Santa Eulàlia station with the metro depots will also be updated.
The disruption will be especially noticeable among residents of L’Hospitalet and the Sants and la Bordeta neighbourhoods. TMB estimates that this section records around 43,000 validations a day on working days in July and close to 36,000 during August.
As the main alternative, a special bus will run along the affected section. There will be no need to validate the travel pass again, and people with disabilities or reduced mobility will have priority in using it.
It will also be possible to combine the L9 Sud and L10 Sud lines between Torrassa and Collblanc and then connect with the L5. Travellers may also use Ferrocarrils between Avinguda Carrilet and Espanya or Rodalies between Rambla Just Oliveras and Sants station.
The closure coincides with other major works on the network, such as the closure of Verdaguer station on the L4 and disruptions on the L9 Nord and L10 Nord lines. It is advisable to check the route before leaving and allow some extra time, especially for daily journeys between L’Hospitalet, Sants and central Barcelona.
